Scenic Design: Corey Shipler
Asst. Charge Artist
About the Scenic Art:
Marisol was designed in an ‘alley’ style configuration in a 150 seat black-box theatre. Since Mr. Shipler wanted the set to be a hyper-realistic urban environment, this mandated a great deal of care and attention in the finishes underneath the graffiti on all surfaces. Many of the bricks and blocks were individually cut out and applied to establish surface variance, then different textures and application styles were developed for concrete, cinder block, and brick.
While certain elements within the graffiti were specifically designed, much of this work was done extempore. Mr. Shipler supplied a great deal of research and the paint shop developed the graffiti.
