About the Scenic Art:
This was the world-premiere of Arthur Kopit’s latest play, and the show proved a challenge within our calendar and labor constraints. The 24′ x 50′ textural backdrop, floor, both sides of the two rolling rock wall units and all of the ‘interior’ locations had to be finished in three weeks. I supervised the crews, which varied from 4 to 12, on the carving, coating, and painting of both rolling rock wall units. I also developed and executed all the treatments for the colorful interiors, which were painted by blocking on alternating layers of opaque paint and complementary translucent glaze.
